Gooch and Housego are duplicating our market leading Fused Fibre Optics capability at EM4 Inc, Boston, MA

In January 2011, EM4 Inc, Boston MA, USA was acquiredby Gooch and Housego (G&H). EM4, is an excellent fit in terms of its optoelectronic technology that provides market leading laser and photodetector components, modules and sub systems.

G&H’s rationale for the acquisition was that we can now offer the highest performance Fibre Optics product portfolio available. In addition, while EM4 is a key supplier within the whole photonics industry, it is particularly successful in Aerospace and Defence within the US.

 To enhance things further, G&H are duplicating our Fused capability at the EM4 site in Boston. Manufacturing Fused Fibre Optics products in the US has been a long term intention for G&H. Our objective, to be more active in the US Aerospace and Defence market. At present, activity in this key market is restricted as Export Regulations and ITAR in particular restrict our ability to do business via our base in the UK.

 In Boston we are currently commissioning multiple fused rigs capable of the following; 0.1 FIT Single Mode Coupler, High Power, Multimode Combiner and Polarisation Maintaining,plus the associated test equipment and will be able to undertake the full range of fused variants already offered in the UK. Once underway, sourcing and ongoing engineering development of fused products controlled under ITAR will be undertaken fully within the US.
